Interpretation of the concept “Pay It Forward”
Inspired by Catherine Ryan Hyde in her book of the same title (2000), the expression “Pay It Forward” describes the concept of a third party beneficiary in which a creditor offers the debtor the option to “repay” the debt by forwarding the payments to a third person instead of repaying the original creditor. Debt and payments can be monetary or can also be paid as good deeds (Wikipedia). Essentially, “Pay It Forward” is a self-perpetuating endowment that can be transferred to succeeding generations of IPL attendees.

For example, if someone helps you, instead of repaying those who helped you, you repay the debt by helping 3 other people. Similarly, these three people help another 9 people, then 9 to 27, etc. Perpetuating these good deeds will spread to many people and eventually to the entire society.
We hope that “Pay It Forward” will become a beautiful spiritual tradition of all IPL students. At present, the cost for their training are sponsored by current successful entrepreneurs. Then, after graduating from IPL and becoming successful entrepreneurs, IPL graduates are expected to “Pay It Forward” by sponsoring a future generation of students (with their own finance and/or with the finance they obtain from other sponsoring resources). The older assist the younger... the former generations support the succeeding generations. This is the spiritual tradition IPL expects to instill in future generations of students as well as the entire society.
Purpose and Goals of the Concept" Pay IT Forward"
The long-term purpose of the concept, ”Pay It Forward,” is to develop, maintain, and perpetuate the IPL program for future generations of IPL candidates. When “ Pay It Forward” becomes a widespread spiritual tradition of IPL and of many future generations, there will be substantially more opportunities for our hingly motivated students to develop their leadership potential without having to worry about financial burdens.
Moreover, starting with this concept, a new trend and philosophy of sponsorship will be shaped:
- People usually think about “sponsoring” as “helping the poor.” In “Pay It Forward,” it is understood as “supporting talents.”
- It is usually said that “to give is to get back” or “to get is to pay back what we received.” In “Pay It Forward,” “to give is not to get back” or “to get is not to pay back what we received.” The concept is “to get is to pay it forward.” To all people involved, the final objective of “Pay It Forward” is to reproduce and multiply the good deeds.
For the above reasons, we may understand that to the students, their completion of the IPL program with the “Pay It Forward” spirit is also the completion of these three goals:
- Completing the first and the most important phase on their road to becoming business leaders
- Contributing to the good cause of developing a new generation of business leaders for society
- Together with other people, setting up a new trend and philosophy of sponsoring for the benefit and betterment of society.
